Evelyn*, a single mom in our community, works full-time and was doing her best to make the start of the new school year special for her daughter. With most of her paycheck going toward food and bills, she felt stressed — until a visit to Beverly Bootstraps changed that.
At our Back-to-School Backpack Program distribution, Evelyn’s daughter fell in love with a bright pink backpack filled with everything she needed for a successful year. While reviewing Evelyn’s paperwork, our staff noticed she also had a son whose age suggested he was in high school. When asked if he needed a backpack as well, Evelyn proudly shared that he had graduated and is now in college on a scholarship, studying Engineering.
She explained that her son had also benefited from our Calculator Program and still uses his graphing calculator in college. “I honestly don’t know where we would be without your services. You gave my son the tools to stay on track and pursue his goals,” she said.
Her story put smiles on the faces of volunteers as she and her daughter headed upstairs to our Thrift Shop to pick out a new outfit for the first day of school — a priceless moment made possible by you.
Because of your generosity, our 2025 Back-To-School Backpack Drive is complete, and 945 backpacks filled with school supplies are now in the hands of local students. Your support means kids like Evelyn’s children can start school confident and ready to learn while their families can stretch their budgets for other essentials like rent, groceries, and utilities.
