Education opens doors – Naomi’s story

Jul 14, 2022 | Beverly Bootstraps Blog

More than twenty years ago, Naomi* made a decision that changed the direction of her life. At the age of 16, she dropped out of high school, moved out of her family home, and began working at fast food restaurant. Two years ago, Naomi made another life-changing decision when she enrolled in adult education classes at Beverly Bootstraps. Naomi passed her first High School Equivalency Test (HiSET) in December of 2020. Then this past May, Naomi successfully completed the requirements for her HSE (High School Equivalency) diploma and graduated in June.

Naomi accomplished this educational goal while caring for two children and working a full-time job as a certified nursing assistant. She is proof that motivation and determination do lead to success. With her High School Equivalency diploma in hand, Naomi is exploring furthering her education to earn a certification in x-ray or ultrasound.

Each and every one of our students has a unique story that defies the odds of being a single parent, working multiple jobs, or having extremely long days to accomplish their graduation goals. Congratulations to Naomi and all the adult education students who have found a way to prioritize education.
